Tipping in Zanzibar is voluntary and at your own discretion, depending on the service you receive. Unlike many Western countries, there is no standard tip in bars and restaurants.

Bear in mind the impact on the local community and keep your tip proportional to the service received in terms of work done for you and education/skills required to do this work. For instance tipping room attendants the same way as tipping highly educated and skilled safari driver guides would lead to social imbalance and leave little incentive for a driver guide to continue his highly responsible job.

If you consider tipping Milele Villas staff, you will find a tip box in your villa. Tips deposited there will be shared equally amongst all staffs. As a guideline 3-5 $ per guest and day can be considered appropriate. Feel free however to add some direct tip to staff who has provided exceptional service for you.
